Virginia Tech officials told students to stay inside on their website after
a person with a gun was spotted near Dietrick Hall. The alert was issued
at 9:37 this morning.
Virginia Tech, located in Blacksburg, Va., endured a shooting rampage April
2007 that left 32 people dead and 25 injured.

The Associated Press reported that Dietrick Hall, a dining hall, is located
a few steps from where the 2007 shooting took place.
Assistant vice president of university relations Larry Hincker said that
three students attending a camp called in to report the gunman. Hincker said
that the alert "is in effect until further notice. We are asking people to
stay indoors until they hear from us again."
The three juveniles reported seeing a 6-foot-tall white man with light brown
hair outside of New Residence Hall East. They said that he appeared to be
holding a handgun and that the weapon was covered by a cloth. The students
also said that the man was walking quickly towards the volleyball courts. | T*********s
