after an accident near Congressional Plaza, a shopping center, closed the
area.
Montgomery County Police tweeted an update from the accident scene, alerting
drivers that the area of Rockville Pike would remain closed for "several
hours." Specifically, the intersection of Edmonston Drive and Congressional
Lane.
At least six cars were involved in the accident, WTOP's Rob Woodfork
reported from the scene just after 2:30 p.m. Investigators are still trying
to piece together how the accident happened around 10 a.m. Friday.
Investigators are not saying how many people were involved in the accident.
They are also not saying if anyone was hurt, or killed.
As the accident investigation continues, the northbound lanes remain shut
down.
"Two of the cars are in the median. Two more are in the northbound lanes.
One more is on the curb," Woodfork reported.
Southbound lanes were down to one lane for a while, but officers opened up

A six-vehicle collision closed several lanes of Rockville Pike on Friday
afternoon.
Rockville Pike was initially closed across all northbound and southbound
lanes at Templeton Place at the time of the accident, 10:30 a.m. Friday.
According to Montgomery County police, a 31-year-old Gaithersburg man was
driving a Volkswagen Tiguan south in the 1200 block of Rockville Pike when
the car crossed into the northbound lanes over a grassy median.
His car struck a Ford pickup truck that was stopped in a northbound lane,
police said. The Volkswagen continued traveling the wrong way in a
northbound lane when police said it struck a Chevrolet station wagon in the
intersection of Templeton Place and Rockville Pike. The Chevolet then hit a
Cadillac SRX, police said.
The Volkswagen then also hit a Honda Civic and a Pontiac Torrent, ran over
the sidewalk and stopped in the parking lot of a BMW dealership, according
to police.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 61-year-old man from Rockville, was
transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life-
threatening injuries. Four other individuals, including three drivers and a
passenger, were taken to Suburban Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries
. The driver of the Honda Civic, who was taken to Suburban Hospital, was
