I plan to go back to China this summer with H1b (was approved by NSC last
year). I haven't gone back since 2005. I've been F1->J1->H1b.
What's the chance of getting a "check"?

You are absolutely right. I just want to have some idea so that I can plan
things around. Going back with a whole family isn't easy.
