A Better U.S. Strategy For East Asia
http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/a-better-u-s-strategy-for-east-asia/
The report stresses the importance of rebalancing U.S. strategy away from an
overly militarized response to China. It recognizes the enormous costs to U
.S. interests that would result from a U.S.-Chinese conflict, and it also
acknowledges that the balance of power in the region has shifted in China’s
favor over the last several decades. The era when the U.S. was the
predominant military power in the region is over, and the U.S. has to adapt
to that and stop chasing after asserting a dominance it will never have
again. This is a concession to reality, and it is also in the best interests
of regional stability and peace, which are two of our country’s chief
interests in East Asia. | b*********3 发帖数: 1709 | 2 Unfortunately our diplomatic, military, intelligence, and political elites
are too wedded to the idea of a US-led international liberal order. In other
words an American global hegemony, in which we shape the global rules and
norms, and decide what regimes are legitimate and illegitimate, and who does
or doesn't deserve self-determination. Which means that we have to be
everywhere, which in turn means mutual defense treaties with a variety of
countries, strategic partnerships with others, having military bases in
nearly every continent, and battle fleets on every ocean and several seas.
Talk to them about the United States showing restraint in its foreign policy
, staying out of the internal affairs of other nations, operating as an
offshore balancing power, accepting that there will be other great powers,
and/or acknowledging much less accepting the national interests of others
and you will be called naïve, an isolationist, or an appeaser. |
