His rhetoric might have worked on the most rabid and fervent of the
Republican base but that was just the primary.
Anyone who votes in a primary is either a policy wonk or hardcore partisan.
Now that he has to appeal to EVERYONE, he is yet to figure out that the
entire country isn't as stupid as the Republican base that elected him in
and he can't drop one liners to win.
This is what his people don't understand.
They assume that by selling out some parking lot for a rally means that they
are 90% of the popular vote.
