Donald Trump has taken over the internet, from Twitter, Facebook to Reddit
— you name it, he’s there!
From titles like “Hillary Clinton embracing KKK leader Robert Byrd, where
is the media on this?” and “If Trump’s taco was racist, then what is
Hillary’s Mariachi band?” no wonder Reddit is a safe haven for Donald
Trump supporters! On a popular subreddit called The_Donald with over 130,000
+ subscribers, self proclaimed “Nimble Navigators” of all races and
backgrounds post about all things Trump.
“Be advised this sub is for serious supporters. We have jokes, comics,
memes, and are not politically correct. Please read and respect our rules
below before contributing.” reads the description of the subreddit. When
initially stepping foot into the realm of /r/The_Donald you quickly question
the motive behind it, is it satire or is it serious? After browsing through
the posts, comments and links, it’s obvious this place isn’t just for fun
and games. Yet, this is a place for TRUE supporters to speak openly and
hang out.

While The_Donald does have a large community with great content, right next
door is /r/SandersForPresident with over 230,000+ subscribers it stands tall
looking down on The_Donald.. or does it? If you look at the figure on the
left, you’ll see a stark difference between the subreddits.
Since i’m a night owl and tend to stay up late, I took a screenshot of the
difference in active users at 2:00 AM EST. On The_Donald you can see there
are well over 3,000 people active users. While on /r/SandersForPresident
there are only around 1,000 people online. Bare in mind, this was taken very
late in the evening, during the afternoon you can see a very big difference
as well!
In an article I wrote on May 21st, I stated that Bernie Sanders people will
vote for Donald Trump, it’s more apparent than ever on The_Donald that this
statement is true. Nearly everyday tons of ex-Bernie Supporters disavow him
and vow to vote for Trump. In my earlier article I go into greater detail
as to why this is happening, but the fact that it’s visible and you can see
it happening on The_Donald is visual proof. All you have to do is search:
“Disavow” on The_Donald and you will see tons of people disavowing Bernie
Sanders.
One of the most iconic parts of the subreddit are the memes, it’s what
makes The_Donald what it is. It’s playful, fun and yet serious, just like
their leader. Their memes range from funny current events to poking a jab at
the other candidates. For example, this one on the right poking fun at Jeb
Bush.
What makes The_Donald so popular on such a liberal leaning site? Well, that
’s just it! The_Donald is all about causing a little disruption in the
normal flow of things. Similar to how Donald Trump himself who is changing
the game of politics, The_Donald is changing the game of Reddit. If you’ve
ever gone to browse /r/all (the main source for content on Reddit) you’ll
notice quickly that these Nimble Navigators are growing, and growing fast! |
