Batesville Mayor Rick Fledderman was charged with patronizing a male
prostitute, Indiana State Police said.
The mayor of a small southeastern Indiana city has been arrested after he
allegedly paid a male prostitute for sex — and the purported hooker faces
charges for failing to disclose he has HIV, authorities said.
Batesville Mayor Richard Fledderman, 60, was charged Tuesday with a
misdemeanor count of patronizing a prostitute, who was identified as 42-year
-old Randy Wigle-Stevens, Indiana State Police said.
Wigle-Stevens, of Indianapolis, is accused of withholding his HIV status
during the June sex acts, as well as trying to blackmail the lawmaker,
authorities said.
Investigators say the alleged prostitute threatened to reveal the scandal if
Fledderman didn't give him more money.
Wigle-Stevens faces a felony charge of "failing to disclose dangerous
communicable disease status," prostitution and intimidation.
Fledderman has been mayor since 2003, but he's wrapping up his last year in
office after losing a Democratic primary election in May, Cincinnati's WLWT-
5 reported.
He did not return repeated requests for comment on Wednesday.
Police launched its probe after Wigle-Stevens went to a hospital on July 19,
alleging he had been assaulted by Fledderman a month prior, according to
court documents obtained by RTC-6 ABC.
The man told police Fledderman contacted him for a massage while his wife
was out of town through his website.
The mayor, who paid $170, then allegedly tried to kiss Wigle-Stevens and
force his head into the man's groin area at his Batesville home, the news
station reported. They also talked politics for about three hours.
Fledderman, who told police the sex acts were consensual, later gave Wigle-
Stevens another $250. | c******i
