Google chairman Eric Schmidt has declined the opportunity to take up a
Cabinet position under the re-elected Obama administration. The search giant
’s top exec publicly stated that he has no desire to make the move from
Google to government.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Schmidt said, “I said last time and I'
ve said again that Google is my home. I have no interest in working for the
federal government.”
Schmidt’s remarks come after a Democrat source said that “nobody’s better
positioned for a Cabinet post”. Word is that he would have been offered
the role of Treasury Secretary or a newly created Business Secretary job.
Google was a large backer of Obama’s re-election campaign, donating $700,
000. However, it seems that despite these overtures, Schmidt will be staying
put and helping to oversee the continued success of the likes of Android
and the Big G’s myriad cloud computing services. |
