古井其幽, 碧草其茵。 By an old drinking well on the grass so green
傍井而息, 吾梦氤氲。 I lay down and fell into a dream
嘤其鸣矣, 如鼓瑟琴。 By a strange mellow sound
交交白鸟, 似诉心音。 from a silver eyed bird
双眸微启, 无语欲陈。 I opened my eyes but said no word
路之迢递, 静女飘临。 On the pathway came walking
伊人其姝, 亦美亦洵。 a woman so bold
有妇随之, 韶华已逝。 Behind her in silence went the old
孺子其幼, 和乐且奔。 Ahead ran the children with joyful cries
载言载笑, 若天之纯。 Their faces were lifted to the skies
静女其发，如墨如夜。 The woman’’s hair was raven and black as the night
熠熠如星，晢晢生辉。 Covered with stars shining bright
凌波渐远，梦之清新。 As they passed by the well
顾盼生彩，晶莹若珍。 I saw that their eyes were flaming likemanycoloured ice
轻盈而过，风动罗裙。 They passed by the well like a breeze pure and clean
飘然如梦，难觅香尘。 Soon they were nowhere to be seen
梦醒若失，碧草其茵。 When I woke up alone on the grass so green
倚井而视，吾梦难寻。 I looked into the well to catch the dream
井水微升，心波纷纭。 The water was rising and I felt a chill
吾心恻恻，凉意若侵。 I willed the water to be still
音容宛在，亦笑亦嗔。 There was a face in the mirror
蓦然回首，伊人何在。 like a face out of time
美目倩兮，情之殷殷。 The eyes held a shimmery shine
