Tennis star Novak Djokovic is in contract to buy two apartments at Manhattan
condominium 565 Broome SoHo for an undisclosed sum.
Mr. Djokovic bought two separate two-bedroom units, each measuring over 2,
000 square feet, on the upper floors of the under-construction project, said
Stacy Spielman, director of sales at 565 Broome SoHo. She said the units
aren't adjacent to each other and so it doesn't appear that Mr. Djokovic
plans to combine them. She declined to specify how much the athlete paid,
but said two-bedroom units on the upper floors start at $5.4 million.
When completed in late 2018, 565 Broome SoHo will consist of two 30-story
glass towers with a total of 115 units, Ms. Spielman said. The project won’
t have a tennis court, but it is expected to come with a saltwater swimming
pool and a glass-enclosed conservatory. Sales started in late September and
nearly a third of the units have sold, she said.
Earlier this year, Mr. Djokovic bought a unit at Eighty Seven Park in Miami
Beach, another project by 565 Broome SoHo’s developer, Bizzi & Partners
Development. Bizzi is developing 565 Broome with Aronov Development and
Halpern Real Estate Ventures, and Eighty Seven Park with Terra Group.
In a statement, Serbia-born Mr. Djokovic said he is a fan of architect Renzo
Piano, whose firm designed both 565 Broome SoHo and Eighty Seven Park in
Miami Beach. “I love the design of these two buildings and their location
is fantastic,” Mr. Djokovic said in the statement. “Both New York and
Miami are on my travel list every year and it will be exciting to have a
place to come back to.”
Eliminated this week at the Australian Open, Mr. Djokovic has won 12 Grand
Slam singles titles. In 2016, he became the first man since 1969 to win all
four Grand Slam titles in a row.
