Rod Laver, on the possibility of Nadal winning Australia:
"It would be a mini-slam, or whatever you want to call it but it isn’t the
grand slam.
It is 40-odd years since I did the grand slam, and before that you had to go
way back to the 1930s for the last time that anyone did it, so it’s not
easy.
Winning one grand slam tournament is difficult enough. I’m not knocking
what would be a great achievement of Nadal’s to win four in succession, but
I don’t think winning four in a row across two seasons would be the same
as a calendar-year grand slam.
It would be an end and a beginning. It would be a start. After maybe winning
in Melbourne he could then go for the grand slam. People always used to say
after winning the Australian Open: 'I suppose I’m going for the grand slam
now then’. Winning the Australian Open would be a start for him.
I think Martina Navratilova once won four in a row across two years, and she
said herself that it did not have the same meaning as having won all four
over the same calendar year." |

要在250或500级非土地的大师赛上伤身了。
纳豆的目标应该是：大满贯上超越费费。要讲究efficiency. |

钱，不打那些比赛怎么保持#1，怎么挣赞助/奖金？

纳豆要是想得开，排名第一不在乎，用延寿的办法来弥补每年少打硬地赚的钱。
Total money= number of year x $/year
纳豆延长右式第一项，减小第二项。
最后如果能在大满贯总数上称为all time best,也是不错的 legacy. |

理由不参赛的话会有处罚的。大小威因为不参加indian wells就被WTA处罚过。 |

We are talking about if there is a fundamental difference between Laver's
calendar year grand slam and the imagined 'Nadal grand slam'. I agree with
Laver: there is. This is because there is a break period between the end of
last season and the start of the next season. During this period, athletes
get well rested, and mentally refreshed. Thus the physical and mental
freshness or weariness for an athlete in the first grand slam vs in the last
grand slam is very different. We can logically conclude that a calendar
year grand slam is much harder to achieve than the now imagined Nadal grand
slam. The latter looks to be winning the same 4 majors in a row. But in
reality, it's winning 3 in a row, and then taking an extended break and
winning the 4th. This 4 in a 'row' is very different from that 4 in a row.
