In Taiwan (while I was there), nobody talked about it, certainly not
textbooks. It is a mess, a Pandora box or a can of worms. Out of picture,
out of mind. (At the same time, I don't understand why Chinese keep talking
about humiliations in the nineteenth century.)
I did think about 1949 once recently, but in the context of how long Taiwan
has separated from China, in the belief that after the two are apart long

You asked me a simple question and I gave you a simple answer, which had
nothing to do with independence. People in Taiwan did not want to think
about Civil War, when we firmly believe we were Chinese and that the
mainland was rightfully ours. Now we no longer deem ourselves Chinese and
thus consider China affiars none of our business. It is that simple.
If you can not handle the truth, do not ask.
