| s*********r 发帖数: 64 | 3 Yes, Americans are quite interested in the Chinese culture, especially those
who have been to China. In the street of Kansas City, a grandpa asked me
whether I was from China. "Yes", I was a little confused because I did not
know what he wanted. He was very excited, "I have been to China, too. It was
a wonderful country". "Really, when and where?" I asked. "It was 1951,
during the Korean War. I was stationed in Taiwan...". We talked for a while
and waved goodbye to each other. It is always nice t

(1) Taiwan was colonized by Japan for half a century.
Then, according to some Chinese, US came to colonize Taiwan also. See my
posting yesterday titled "Chinese Taipei Baseball Team." (I don't blame
those Chinese, for some Taiwanese now assert that US did take over Taiwan
after World War Two, by ordering Generalissimo Chiag kai-shek to occupy
Taiwan on behalf of the Allies. The lawsuit is in United States federal
court.

One can file lawsuit like this in many parts of the world, but he can never
expect to win. Mr Chen Suibian can also sue Ma Yinjiu for libel when Ma
accuses him of corruption. Do you think Chen can win? It would only make
Chen a joke for more Taiwnese.
Being colonized for a while does not change one's identity, no matter the
colonizer is Japan or UK. I remember an Indian student told his American
classmates he was grateful that UK colonized India and introduced modern
civilization into India. H

mainstream culture of China than the Cantonese culture is.
(2) The entire China does not share the same culture. Mongolians, Uighurs
and Tibetans. And hans in Canton (where my immediate ancestors hailed from),
Shanghai and Beijing are clearly diffferent. Otherwise I would not consider
Mandarin (or Beijing language) riveting.
