IBM (IBM) on Wednesday filed a protest with the U.S. Government
Accountability Office against a $10 billion Pentagon cloud contract known as
the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure.
The IBM protest comes days before the Oct. 12 deadline for bids among cloud
service providers. The primary complaint is over the Defense Department's
decision to award the JEDI Pentagon cloud contract to a single provider.
"No business in the world would build a cloud the way JEDI would and then
lock in to it for a decade," Sam Gordy, general manager at IBM's U.S.
Federal group, said in a blog post.
"Leading global enterprises want clouds that are flexible, provide access to
the best applications from multiple vendors, and can smoothly transition
legacy systems. JEDI is a complete departure from these best practices," he
wrote.

Defense officials say the JEDI Pentagon cloud contract would see unwanted
complexity with more than one provider.
Amazon (AMZN) is seen as the front-runner to win the contract award, through
its Amazon Web Services unit. Amazon is considered a front-runner because
it's the primary cloud service provider for the Central Intelligence Agency.
JEDI: Google Opposes Pentagon Cloud Contract
The Google unit of Alphabet (GOOGL) on Monday said it decided not to compete
for the contract, saying the project may conflict with its corporate values.
Microsoft (MSFT) is actively working on winning the JEDI contract. In a
Microsoft blog post Tuesday, the company outlined its government-focused
cloud services, with its Azure cloud computing architecture.
Oracle (ORCL), in August, also filed a protest, saying that awarding JEDI to
a single company is improper.
Shares of IBM tumbled 3.1% to close at 142.69 on the stock market today. | F****s 发帖数: 3761 | |
