according to a William Blair e-commerce survey, and prices are 8% lower when
more than one item is purchased. The discount increases to 12%-13% in
states where Amazon does not collect a state sales tax.
William Blair's study looked at 4,000 items, selected at random, at 40
retailers. It found Amazon carried 44% of those items, and two-thirds of
items costing $20 or more.
About 29% of the lowest-priced goods on Amazon come from third-party sellers
, up from 25% a year ago, the study found, adding that the third-party
service fee for Amazon is higher than gross profit on direct sales.
