MeeGo is an known factor within the industry. A major problem is that
neither INTC or NOK has the software expertise to be a good OS designer/
supporter. In addition, GOOG and AAPL bring something substantial beyond
their own OS, e.g. web services and user experience.
Even though MeeGo embraces the trend of open platform, it does not guarantee
a happy ending. Linux is open with millions of developers and it is still
far away from taking Windows' share in consumer PC market. Note that phones
/PDAs are consumer products.
Still, an advantage on NOK side is that NOK has the largest share of
smartphone market. But, Android and iPhones are catching up quickly. |

From my point of view, maybe very unique one, Apple phone is near its end
destination, compared with iPad future.
Google just develop software platform. From phone perspective, it does not
compete with hardware maker, Nokia.
If Nokia's new CEO can shade some sunlight on polishing nokia's software
platform, or adopt google's system, NOK share price will be lifted up a lot.
There are lots of options available for Nokia....after all, it is one of the
most healthy companies here, making money, pay dividend...

Since I am in the mobile industry, my view might be too geeky. The new
innovations over mobile phones (smartphone/PDA) are mainly software based.
It is really hard for NOK/INTC to compete with GOOG/AAPL/MS in the long run.
If NOK adopts Android, it becomes another MOT.
Phone expertise is like modem/LAN/WLAN expertise. It is important. However, when it is a part of a (mobile) computer, the importance diminishes along with time.
Now, phone companies are competing to land a position like Legend or
Dell or HP. This might be the best hope for them. Maybe, in this sense,
NOK has a chance.
