China Education Alliance Inc. (CEU) disclosed Thursday that the company's
auditor confirmed bank balances at most of the education-resource and
services company's operations in the country.
Shares jumped on the late morning news and were recently up 11.2% at $3.37.
Still, the stock is down about 20% this week after investment firm
Kerrisdale Capital Management LLC on Monday said it believes China Education
's "revenue and profit are highly overstated in its SEC filings and that the
company is mostly a hoax," contending websites aren't fully functional.
The stock fell 34% Monday on the report.
Kerrisdale also said it hired an investigator to visit the company's
training center in China and "found it to be barren of desks and teaching
equipment."
China Education has called the accusations "baseless" and said it "
categorically denies" all of the consulting with advisers and legal counsel
on "the appropriate response in order to preserve investor confidence and
shareholder value." It also welcomed investors and shareholders to visit the
company's headquarters in Harbin, China. |
