U.S. stocks finished lower as investors cautiously waited for the kick off
the new earning season and the key September jobs report tomorrow. S&P 500
fell 1.91 points ( or -0.16% ) to close at 1158.06. Technology stocks got a
rebound today while the material stocks closed most lower today.
On the corporate earning side, Alcoa Inc (NYSE:AA) reported a better than
expected earnings 3rd quarter earning in the after hours. Revenues for the
quarter were $5.3 billion, a 2 percent increase from $5.2 billion in the
second quarter of 2010 and a 15 percent increase from $4.6 billion in the
third quarter of 2009. And "We see markets strengthening and have increased
our 2010 global aluminum consumption forecast to 13 percent from 12 percent."
Overall, it is a good earning report. Since the alumn products of Alcoa are
widely used from personal consumption products to industry products. It is
expected that this earning season will not have big negative surprise for
most of the companies in S&P 500. The chance of the big pull back of the
market thus needs to be reduced from today. The market range will needs to
