owning, investing in or sponsoring
hedge funds or private equity funds.
If this rule is passed (very unlikely, though), BAC has to spin off Merrill,
right?

the impact of this rule will large fall on these banks. On the other hand,
GS/MS does not has so much insured deposit, which can be easily spinned out.
So, GS/MS may have huge advantage over BAC/JPM on principal trading/equity
investment. To spin off Merrill may be not a bad idea for BAC share holders

BTW, it will be even better that ML can buy itself out of BAC. But anyway,
there is no way that BAC will have to spin it off, period.

BAC/WFC等大银行比MS/GS做得少很多，有的大银行甚至根本不做，如USB。
不过这个计划也未必能真防范金融风险，因为像次贷就根本没法靠这个方法防范，只能
通过中央银行的严格监管和调控来实现。

但对商行的限制也很有必要。

the biggest problem for them now
is american people hate them. They have to do something to reverse this
kind of sentiment, for example,
lending to small business.
So, I guess even if they could give up the "bank holding" immediately, they
will not in near term.

我觉得BAC如果不把钱内部划拨给ML用，ML自己想办法，那么就已经是按照奥巴马的计
划执行了。
