Thought I'd poll the members here on SAS certification before I invest
time & money.
Is it worth the time and money to obtain SAS certification? Do potential
employers notice if you're certified, or does programming experience and
education count for more?
Thanks,

Hi Robert,
I guess the question here is whether you are currently an experienced
SAS programmer with a degree?
If you are one, I believe that the benefits of SAS certifications is
minimum. The reason behind this is that experienced programmers are more
evaluated based on their previous experience with SAS programming, what
they have achieved and what specialty skills they have. Although I am
certified, when I went for interview for my current job, they never ask

In the U.S., certainly having a masters degree in statistics or
biostatistics from a major accredited U.S. University serves as
"certification"; I don't believe that a degree outside the U.S, except
perhaps from Canada or the U.K. would carry that sort of weight- certainly
there seem to be a fair amount of "fly-by-night" colleges in India (at least
from what we see on SAS-L :-) ) that don't have anywhere near the standards
that U.S. universities do and thus having a degree fr |

I've been lerking in the background reading all the comments. I
generally agree that certification does not mater as much as education
and experience.
Recently, I have been seeing more hiring managers requiring Base SAS
certification. My guess is that the job market is so full of hungry
experienced SAS candidates that they may be using the certification as
another filtering agent. UNfortunately, they may be weeding out some
very qualified candidates.

Hello John,
I agree with you, It happened in own case when I had interview for major
pharmaceutical company the hiring manager did ask me are you SAS certified
or not (I did not put it in my resume) . I told him Yes I am then he asked
me why I did not not put it in my resume, Then I referred him to SAS-L
discussion and told him what I felt. I think he agreed with me (The reason
is I got the Job) . Well what ever it is I think the gaining Popularity of
SAS certification is g |
