Soon after Keith Hilborn got Vicky back home, her local doctor cleared her
to travel. Keith started calling the CTCA oncology information specialist he
had first spoken to. "She said things like ‘We'll have to get back to you,
'" Keith said.
They never did. Vicky "was depending on me, and I couldn't get them to treat
her," he said. "She never got a single cancer treatment from them."
Hilborn received a statement from CTCA saying Vicky's care cost $319,902.20.
"This was just for treating her infection," he said. "My local hospital
could charge like that, too, if they flew you around and sent limos for you."
He refused to pay, keeping the reimbursement Vicky's insurer had sent to him
. CTCA sued him for payment and won. A sheriff's sale of his belongings is
