Nehring statement concerning defeat of SCA-5

SAN DIEGO -- Former California Republican Party Chairman and candidate for
Lt Governor Ron Nehring issued the following statement in response to the
announcement earlier today that the Assembly would not take up SCA-5, the
controversial state constitutional amendment that would have re-introduced
racial discrimination in college admissions.
"SCA-5 is dead for now, thanks to the outstanding efforts of thousands of
Californians, especially in our Asian-American communities, against re-
introducing racial discrimination at our colleges and universities. Their
efforts backed up Republican legislators who stood for fairness, resulting
in the bill being pulled.
"Ronald Reagan once said, 'When you can't make them see the light, make them
feel the heat,' and that's exactly what happened over the last few weeks as
thousands of Californians mobilized to keep admissions fair and based on
merit. | o*********e

除非加州大学能录取全部申请人, 竞争总是不可避免的. 就像一场比赛, 你可以给贫困
孩子(不论种族)买球鞋, 或者给他提供训练, 但是不能直接更改和其他孩子的比赛结果
. That is simply not fair.
可惜所有民主党的人, 包括声明反对SCA5的mike honda在内, 都没有勇气说出这一基本
常识.
