我们:have you heard anything about this ?
BQ: yes!
us: what do you think about it?
BQ: I do not need to vote on it, it won't pass the senate
us: (??!!! ) it has already passed
BQ to secretary: really? (pulling out phone to google )
........hmmmm it did
BQ: even it passes, governor will veto it
me: (???!!!! are you stupid?) with all due respect, the governor can not
veto it, because it's an amendment to constitution
BQ: (look up some letter ) here it says it has been vetoed 2 times before. .
.... oh, those were not constitution amendments.
ahh... here is what I think is a good approach: Texas has this 10% system,
where high school kids in the top 10% of their class are guaranteed entry to
University of Texas ....
us: (eyes wide open !! do u know anything at all about California college
education or 209 at all?.... trying to say that California already has it ,
but the conversation went on to something else... I forgot )
J: next month is your relection campaign ...
BQ: (无理打断)yes,.. but we are not going to talk about it ...
...
J: (showing the UCLA law school professor report) this is a thorough report
on the admissions process by UCLA , if you could have time to read it...
BQ: (taking over the report) good, I will, thank you
......
BQ: looks I need to study on this subject.
me : this report is a widely cited report on the UC admissions practices,
called the "Mare report", done by UCLA's own people. would you please take
it too?
BQ's secretary: yes.
BQ's secretary taking us to a separate room to get contacts.
BQ's secretary to me: all those materials, would you have an electronic copy?
me: yes, I'll send it to you
me: since we really did not touch on much today, after Mr Quirk does more in
-depth study, maybe we could have a follow-up meeting?
BQ's secretary: that's certainly possible.
One time in the conversation he did say "I got a lot of calls, most are from
Asians"; this is also one reason I say he's pretending , because he
apparently knows this hot topic, it's impossible he won't do even the most
basic google search to find some basics. it's also hard to imagine that he
doesn't know the existing UC 10% system, or that a constitutional amendment
can not be vetoed. 。。
