I am writing this email to bring to your attention on upcoming vote on SCA
5, authored by Sen. Ed Hernandez. The bill is essentially just another
effort trying to insert race as a factor in future University of California
admission. I firmly believe that this is against the fundamental belief of
US legal system that everyone should be equal regardless his/her race.
Therefore, I strongly urge you to vote NO on this matter, and our community
will watch this vote very closely.

I am writing respectfully to request your attention to SCA5, the
constitutional amendment to repeal provisions implemented through the
enactment of Proposition 209. Please strongly consider voting “NO” on
SCA5 as passing SCA5 will hold Asian students to an unfairly higher standard
than other races in the admissions process.
It may seem that there is an increased number of Asian students in the
college campuses, but they got there because they have worked hard and
qualified themselves. It smacks of racism to discriminate against Asian
students because they are “over-represented”. If everybody is created
equal, why should Asian students be treated unequally in the admissions
process? Why should colleges/Universities be allowed/encouraged to judge
the credentials of a student based on his/her race or color of skin?
Dropping standards for a certain race will eventually encourage laziness in
students in middle school and hurt the hard-working population. In the end,
we as California people will be less competitive and successful.
One alternative the State could do to help the “under-represented” young
children is to put more resource to the community in need to promote
education in the elementary and middle school. It is essential to not
sacrifice the qualified students to meet the need of unqualified students.
To defend our constitutional right, I request you to please say “NO” to
SCA5, which is designed to bring racism to college admissions.
