conference Tuesday at Menlo Park City Hall, an event that signals the
Palo Alto company is ready to transfer its corporate flag one city up
the Peninsula.
Facebook's public relations team sent e-mail invitations Friday
morning to reporters, but wouldn't comment directly about long-
standing reports that it was eying to the old Sun Microsystems campus.
However, this statement from a Facebook representative all but
confirms the social networking giant is on the move:
"We're holding a press event on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Menlo Park City
Hall regarding a campus that will fit our long-term business needs. We
look forward to sharing more at that time."
Talk has been circulating for months about Facebook's pending move
from its current headquarters on South California Avenue in Palo Alto
to the larger former Sun Microsystems campus off Bayfront Expressway
in Menlo Park.
Last week, the Palo Alto Weekly reported Facebook has quietly bought
22 acres of property next to the Sun offices.
Facebook has been growing so fast that it outgrew its current
corporate headquarters almost as soon as it moved in. The company had
to lease additional space nearby to accommodate its workforce, which
is now more than 2,000.
