这些问题一定要答好,面试过一个PHD,生物的,还有计算机的硕士,申请
的是BUSINESS ANALYST。为什么转行的问题答的就不太好,美国同事回来
就跟我说,一看就是做FACULTY都没人要的,东学一下西学一下的,啥都
没学好,我当时惊得差点掉了下巴。通常老美都比较NICE的,居然这样评价PHD。

As some of you have learned through experience, a job interview often does
not feel like an interview at all. It can be very conversational. At times,
it does not seem to focus on scientific topics at all and you are left
wondering what was being probed. There are a couple possible reasons for
this.
First, some interviewers form strong impressions from the paper documents
about credentials and then use the interview to examine the candidate’s
interpersonal skills and poise. For these interviewers, it is not as
important what you talk about, as it is how you carry yourself.
Second, in a screening interview for which you are just one of many
candidates, you may be facing an interviewer who is just politely passing
the time. In this instance, it is important to go in with a plan. Your goal
is to present yourself well and forcefully, to creatively find ways to bring
out strengths that would not be apparent from your documents and to get
your interviewer to think again. Merely passing the time talking about
sports will not do this.
Third, some people just are not strong interviewers or do not know how to
properly conduct interviews. But, if you are prepared, focused and forceful
, you will often earn goodwill (and points) for just making the twenty
minutes seem more productive and successful than others that came before and
after.
A few pointers:
• Have themes that you want to get across. These are personals
strengths, aptitudes, competencies and experiences that either predict
success at a new company or that are affirmatively valued by the new company.
• Practice. Out loud. A lot. It just doesn’t sound the same way
coming out of your mouth as it does when it is kicking around between your
ears. If you are really uncomfortable about giving these answers in front of
someone that you know, then you need to be doing this even more. You need
to be comfortable speaking about yourself and answering anticipated
questions.
• Be prepared for predictable and softball questions. Being
prepared does not mean memorizing answers. It means thinking about how you
will craft an answer to any particular variant of a question that employs
your themes and sounds smooth, but not scripted.
• Don’t go on and on. A good interview answer is rarely over
ninety seconds. If you find yourself deep in the middle of a five minute
recitation of the facts of a case or project on which you worked, it is time
to cut it short.
• Have good questions ready. Questions about the company and its
practice and how you would fit into that practice (e.g., what you would do
as a new scientist or investigator, how quickly people get responsibility,
what you can be doing to better prepare yourself for the job, why your
interviewer chose his or her study field or research project, and what
skills are shared by people who excel in that area). And you need to appear
truly interested in the answers. This will be easy if you choose the
questions well, as you truly will be interested in the answers. It is a huge
mistake to “pass” on asking questions. It is a similarly huge mistake to
not engage in active listening while your questions are being answered.
Preparing For Behavioral Interviewing
Behavioral interviewing is an interviewing approach that probes your fitness
for a job by exploring how you previously reacted to specific common
situations.
As you will note from reviewing the questions, many address common themes of
overcoming challenges or demonstrating desired behaviors.
As a result, by being prepared to speak about several experiences, you can
cover a number of questions. The following are a few guidelines. Your
stories should not criticize co-workers, bosses, professors, etc. As
tempting as it may be at times to talk about how you worked around a really
difficult person, criticism of others is almost always the kiss of death in
an interview. Instead, try to depersonalize the situation and focus on the
positive steps that you took – not the negative attributes of another. Keep
your answers focused. You always need less detail than you think you do (
and certainly less detail than you will provide if you answer cold without
preparing). A nice tight story with most of the description focused on what
you did is the best strategy.
Many people also find it helpful to prepare a loose outline of stories that
illustrate recent and relevant behaviors using the STAR method. S =
Situation (set up the story by giving a brief background). T – Task (
explain the task or challenge at hand). A = Action (be sure to articulate
your specific contributions in addition to group performance). R = Result (
this is most important – always describe the outcome).
By learning the above tricks and practicing on your own, you could become a
STAR yourself. Good luck!

Agree.
Treat it as a show/test, in which you want to displace the best side of you
while hiding those not-so-good aspects of you away from sight.

我觉得自信很重要很重要。。。在讲自己做的东西的时候,要唯我独尊,对提出的问题
应答自如。

面试过一个BEGGING的,本来感觉还凑合,一BEGGING大家就觉得可能
没公司要他,几十个人的公司表表忠心是可以的,但千万不要说,I

居然有人会在面试中说这种话??!!
最多就是说,i think i am a great fit for this position balabala~~~
当然要bala多一点
多面几次就好了,就那么几个问题。为什么要转行/工作/跳槽,是肯定要问的问题,当
然要准备充足一点,以兴趣/家庭为借口是最好的
短期/长期目标也都是要问的。短期勤勤恳恳工作,长期C*O, 哈哈

当然会有,GREAT FIT之类的都是套话了,这个工作对我很重要什么的,也是套话,
说套话不会IMPRESS人的,最多是用来避免大家不说话的尴尬,面试还是要细心准备,
如果你觉得这个工组重要,你重视,就要想办法问出质量高水平高的问题来,一般
面试的不在乎你问什么问题,如果能问到面试官比较关心的问题,尤其是技术性的,
面试效果比较好,最好把公司干什么,这个DEPARTMENT干什么,有多少人,以前
都做过什么,人招你的目的是什么,要解决什么问题,他们现在遇到了什么问题,
他们长远的有什么打算,如果能发现有什么问题,那就更好了,这需要仔细研究
多方打听。

既然是小O找,我就多说几句,INTERVIEW要避免,
1.不直接回答问题,支支吾吾的不知道说些什么,不懂的问题直接说不会,我要回去研
究研究,
没听太懂的,可以复述一遍问题,这样给自己一些思考的时间,一个PHD说话支支吾吾
,给人印象
会不好
2.说话不条理没有逻辑
说话的时候要观察面试管的反映,眼要看着对方,不能躲闪,面试官走神打瞌睡说明你
回答的
不好无聊,马上打住讲点别的。
3.长篇大论,滔滔不绝,把面试官讲困
老印经常干这种事,面试官很反感这个,除非你和工作差距太大,只能靠发挥看哪一杆
子能打中
4.紧张不说话
如果大家都不说话,会很尴尬,要学会MAKE A CONVERSATION,拉近面试官的距离,
面试你的人以后不是老板就是同事,没必要太紧张
