Under federal law, most legal immigrants are not eligible for
Medicaid during their first five years in the U.S., except for emergency
treatment.
After five years, they can enroll if they meet Medicaid’s other eligibility
requirements. No matter how long they have resided the U.S., undocumented

Some
states use state-only funds to cover some low-income immigrants who are
barred
from Medicaid under federal restrictions.
