T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 1 Before reading Maffetone, I consider stretching and loosening up as warm
up, now I have a completely different concept. Looking back at a month
worth of HR data, it was pretty clear that it usually takes me about 2.5 -
3 mi to warm up - by that I mean my HR stabilizes and drop at least 5 bmp
in the next mile, and drop a few more as I continue. By then I can run
without worrying about HR over the self imposed limit, and even need to
speed up a little to maintain the same HR.
I don't know if you h | w********6 发帖数: 12977 | 2 I used to need 5-8 miles to warm up, it all depends on what is warm up.
In this case, HRM is simply not working properly, especially if you don't
have salt water on the contact points (I use saliva, which is a good
substitute according to the Garmin manual)
To wait till heart rate stabilize, or to wait till your initial fatigue goes
away, or to loosen your ligaments/joints, they can all be called warming up | T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 3 In a hot and humid weather like last month, I don't need salt water,
because I stared sweating soon as I got out of the house. The HRM displayed
low number before I run and increase with my pace and decrease
when I walk. Unless I see a huge peak without feeling anything different,
I consider my HRM pretty reliable.

after getting through the first glycogen wall.:)

speeding up is probably very common in novice runners. I count myself as
one.

| b***i 发帖数: 10018 | 8 yes, i've paid close attention to my HR. Even when it's not stable, i can
still tell that if you run the same pace, your HR should climb steadily in
the first few miles. i don't think your HR will go higher during warm up,
unless you run faster or climb uphill during the first 2-3 mi.

| T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 9 Mine does go high during warm up and i think it makes sense because your
heart has to deal with increase activity. I think everyone's sensitivity
may be different. In my case, it's extremely hard not to go over certain
threshold even if i mixed slow jog with walk breaks for the first couple
of miles. After mile 3, I don't have that problem anymore, I can actually
speed up.

| j******e 发帖数: 129 | 13 From I what I read in Running AHEAD, it said that everyone's heart rate will
rise during a run due primarily to the body's heating and dehydration.
Heating and dehydration problem may be more severe in outdoor running
compared to running on treadmill.
The post also mentioned that pace needed to slow down to maintain the heart
rate under MAF.

| w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 15 you carb load before the race and don't have to eat significant amount of
real food until some time into the race. I think that's why the elite ultra
runners run a much faster pace in the first 3 hours of a 24 hour race. when
I talk about energy supply, I don't just mean from burning fat, but from
eating as well.
