T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 3 Absolutely amazing philosopher who happens to be a runner (or the other
way around), deeply
spiritual that brings running to a whole different mental level. If you
love it, it shows your maturity (or age?).
Thanks a lot for sharing this.

T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 6 I think it was very apparent from his writing. He says "But really what it
is, all this running, what it really is, is an escape and an ascent into a
space where none of the things that matter matter." To be a philosopher,
you've got to have time (while you run) to think, free from daily life.

g*****r 发帖数: 4444 | 7 to me running is just running, I actually can't spare a bit of my mind
thinking of anything else such as philosophy except moving forward. hehehe.

T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 8 Then you should read his blog entitled "FLOW" where he says:
"You runners know this. Think of all the flows that the act of running
catches you in. There is the individual run itself, the way it can carry
you along down the street and up and down hills until there is no "you" to
assign to the effort, only the effort which is one and the same as the
movement and the rhythm of your feet touching the pavement."
He also wisely advice people don't take philosophy seriously.
hehehe.

b*********a 发帖数: 1145 | 9 i think eventually every runner will become a philosopher in some way,
because when you are intentionally torture yourself while other people are
looking for ways to make themselves comfortable, you need to come up to some
philosophy to persuade yourself. Like when you run in hot or cold weather,
in rain or snow, or run ultra, you have to either come to some theory to
explain your behavior ,or admit that you are crazy. LOL

T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 10 I like how he puts it, which echoes what you said:
"We runners develop a set of meanings which help us to experience the
rest
of life in a richer way. Running, for the runner, is a practice of
meaning. That's why it is a practice of freedom. It gives us the freedom
to make some sense out of the sometimes crushing confusion of life."
At least some runners may age wisely, which may be an unexpected benefit. HeHeHe.
