Both team were there ready to play. Team TopSpin arrived an hour earlier to
warmup. Camcorder was set. Live streaming was ready. The group photo before
the contest was taken. The players' names for the first match were submitted
. (Khoa Nguyen from TopSpin and Zhang Di from CTTA) However, when Khoa and
Zhang Di started to warm up, Zhang Di found that both sides of Khoa's racket
were red. He brought it up to my attention. Khoa's answer was that he ran
out of the black rubber.
Unfortunately, Khoa did not bring a spare racket and declined to use others
racket to play. Then team TopSpin requested to change the player for the
first match which was denied by me. The first reason was that the match was
set. Both players started to warm up already. Secondly, since the contest
required to use at least 3 players, TopSpin, in any case, would have to
forfeit at least one match. Truong Tu and Barney Reed may play the rest of
the four matches without giving up any more matches.
Not sure what was going on. Khoa did not accept that and chose to walk out
without saying much. Truong also followed Khoa to step out of CTTA. Barney
stayed to play a few practice matches with Zhang Di and Ma Chao.
So, the ruling is that CTTA won the contest by default and CTTA will play
with the championship contest with ICC tentatively on 11/27 at 7:00PM in ICC.
Sorry for people who actually went their to watch the playoff and who
planned to watch it online. |

是用来做保险的，涂的印度神油会少一些。正拍没赌过去才用备用拍。两块不可能涂一样多，
要两个都过不去就歇菜了。
我亲眼看见某专业运动员在某比赛前四处打听，问比赛查不查海绵厚度。他刚灌完胶，用我的
尺子一量，超厚了。

few things to hopefully diffuse the situation.
In my opinion, this was supposed to be friendly matches between local
players who already knew each other well. No need to go "by the book" on
everything. Obviously, playing with same color on both sides is not legal.
But if you think it hasn't been allowed in major tournament then look up the
Cary Cup 2005 Final for the match between Thomas Keinath and Gombos. In
that match, Thomas Keinarth knew about his opponent using rubbers with the
same color on both side but was ok with it. That's good sportsmanship. It's
all for fun and sports. With that said, you definitely had the right to
disqualify him, but was that necessary?
As for the request to change player, sure that might not be technically
legal, but was it again necessary? It could have been handled differently
and let the fans enjoy the event. All one need to do was just to do a redraw
since the matches haven't started. Again, this is a match between local
players who knew each other and are even friends. So why being inflexible?
Or did I forget the fact that professional players were hired in from other
countries to play for some of the local teams?
This goes back to the fact that this whole league is getting too serious.
Speaking of conflict of interest, why was the entire Division I schedule
being held up and wouldn't start until Xin Zhou can get into this country
and play for the ICC team? And the fact that the hold up can be allowed to
happen because the schedule is controlled by the club that's waiting for
that player? And speaking of by-the-book, at the start of the season, Zhang
Di's name was not even on the roster and was allowed to be added in later
was being largely ignored.
Regarding Khoa, I can tell you that he convinced me to let The Top Spin
participated in the league even when I didn't want to in the beginning. He
wanted to promote the league and the sports ever since the original league
started, and not to try anything to win. For a guy who has been at many
World Tournaments and Olympics, a local league event like this is definitely
for fun. So maybe he was caught off guard when it gets too serious like
this.

are bad. Everyone has their own thinking on rules based on situation.

reach finals of BATTF league. Without even Zhou Xin we look much stronger
than both the teams (Topspin & CTTA) with our top three players Gidla Jiten(
2576), Anal Kashyap(2579) & Lily Zhang (2527) compare to Barney, Khoa &
Trung. Even if we loose couple of matches in the begining we know that
there is a playoff in the end and we can play that with Zhou Xin to reach
finals.
I had no idea or interest on div. 1 schedule as all other team captains
were also involved for that with availability of their players and club's
schedule. I know that div 1 contest was supposed to end before November so
top two teams can go for Nationals in December.

ITTF changed the rule mostly for guys like Cai Zhenhua, using 2
different rubbers, esp those twiddlers like myself. |
