plus, some of these topological insulator japanese authors started
mentioning classification of toplogical
insulator phases in various dimensions using string theory objects (D-branes
) and K-theory periodicity,
i guess the nobel is pretty much gone after being related to string theory

(HdTe/CdTe quantum well)
如果这玩意以后有了比较重要的应用价值,得奖不是没有可能
至于你说的拿弦论等来分类的工作,只能算是锦上添花,而且太形式化了,我不认为有
得奖的可能

combing the hair on your head. Its so called application to condensed matter
physics is just some simple exercise a math sophomore could do.

c****e 发帖数: 2097 | 10 i would like to believe all math sophomores were such good material
although in reality they're just what they are.
of course, Grothendieck was probably not a sophomore when he thought about his groups.
so as a result, i really doubt how much original stuff can come from a math sophomore or
graduate student for that matter. and many mathematicians are not more than just
reciting machines of known stuff, these days or before.
no offense to real brilliant mathematicians, who are completely differe

tried to reflect on the kind of hostility towards string theory on this
board.
i didn't know the history.
i knew of these work actually, by accident, not because i was more
interested in it.
the princeton group's experiment i knew of.
没有可能得奖,锦上似乎也没有添花
the basic theory was quite nice in its original version.
i mentioned those papers just because some author(s) did some work which i
think is pointless.
of course, we may need

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 15 call it application of string theory to condensed matter physics is an
insult to string theory. all I know is that there is some application of
classical GR to condensed matter physics. sometimes with a little one loop
correction taken into account.
it is fair to say that even AdS/CFT didn't help us understand much about
strings themselves so far -- all we've learned is free strings, essentially
nothing about string interactions. most so called mainstream work in string
theory today are really m

i have very similar opinions about what's going on.
