How do you feel about job situation this year at big pharma? I am a 5th year
Ph.D. right now and I am looking for a job in pharma industry. It looks very
tough to land a good job. |

and Novartis, they have sepcial program for real postdoc training, not
for cheap labor working, and you can do something different than you PhD
work but also related to real industry drug discovery. However it is also
very competitive to get in. Check this out:

that masters have disadvantages in terms of promotion etc... |

做研究的，最好还是去学校，小biotech或寥寥几个有research reputation
的大药厂。

POSTDOC经常喜欢要背景接近的人似的, 似乎就是在找马上能上手干活但是又比SCIENTIST
便宜的劳动力.我有这个印象是因为我们LOCAL的一个公司找过我去做POSTDOC, 就是因为
我做的东西正是他们想要的. 但是我也不知道这个印象对不对.
如果POSTDOC时的方向和PHD不一样, 那找工作时用哪个方向找呢? 是两个方向都可以找,
还是用POSTDOC时的方向找, 还是可以找其他的方向?(因为别人看重的是你的学习能力而
不是以前做过什么?)
希望大家不要嫌我问题太多, 我们地处农村的, 都不认识什么INDUSTRY的同胞, 好多问题
不知道找谁问.

发帖数: 4054 | 14 As far as I know for Ph.D. the background match is very important. For master
degree, background match may not be that important because they expect you to
have learning ability and will not work independently at least for the first
2 years. But for Ph.D. you will be expected to work independently pretty soon
and if you are good, become group (associate group) leader in the near future
. Ph.D. title is also important for promotion, of course depend on the section
you are in.

dissertation for a long time, only one or two months away from Ph.D, but I've
to give up. No Ph. D here found a job in recent five years! I tried, but
still no luck. If I insist on Ph.D, I'll get starved :( Now I'm transfering
my Ph.D dissertation into Master thesis, sigh......

Genentech noted on their website saying that most of their postdocs have
completed a few years of postdoc experiences elsewhere.

发帖数: 473 | 20 not perticular to this year, it is very ambitious to say that you want a job right after PhD.
unless you are pharmaceutics/engineering major it is pretty sure that you have to
go for postdoc.
