There is no secret behind the success of Oregon these past several years.
They are bringing in top flight talent and competing for championships on a
yearly basis. They have no football tradition and are playing in a sub-par
conference, yet we would kill to sign a recruiting class as talented as the
ones Oregon is bringing in each year.
Which brings me to my next point, Nike. We know that these kids are
going to Oregon because of the money Phil Knight is pumping into the program
. They have great facilities, but the recruits really love the jerseys. Why
can't we leverage something similar with Walmart? Obviously Walmart doesn't
carry the cool factor of Nike, but we're talking about one of the largest
corporations in the world located in our back yard. You're telling me that
Walmart couldn't pump some money into making awesome quality football
jerseys? They could follow the Nike/Oregon model to a T and in turn making a
killing off of jersey sales in their stores.
People might laugh at the idea of Walmart jerseys, but it could be just
what we need to turn the corner and return to national relevance.
