gives you the first year free. In this way, you pretty much get what the UA
gold members would get. Not exactly, but mostly similar.
The next choice is, as other said, to become the Marriott platinum member,
which you can then ask to become silver member due to the agreement between
the airline and the hotel. However, that's a huge spending, to be precise, $
180K(=(75-15)x$3k if you start with Chase Marriott Premier) to get the
platinum.
BTW, as a former platinum member, I would say the membership is a shit. It
won't guarantee room upgrade and miserably welcome benefits. If you go to a
timeshare hotel such as those in Hawaii, sorry, you won't even get general
benefits.

repeat一次就gold了，然后就plat。

同事silver飞了一年，upgrade过一次10小时的international flight， 北爱而兰回LA
。
年底的短途飞机很容易upgrade，因为frequent traveler都会avoid那个时候出门。

booking fees也比较实在。25%里程bonus比较鸡肋。万豪对我们家很好，还有UA小银卡
