the same time business with Huawei has been shrinking significantly in
recent years. We liked ZTE because they purchase significant amount of chips
from us. Since 2015, Huawei purchased smaller and smaller amount of chips
after they started using their own BaseBand chips. My buddies in my previous
company now worry a lot. They start to worry if their business will even
exist in two and three years. People have no fxcking sense of chip industry
in this forum. The 99% chips can be made on 28nm line, and it is not huge
technology know-how for those chips. The reason our previous company still
have business is because 1) patent 2) low-margin. Chip business generally is
cyclic and low-margin because it requires a lot of equipment and
depreciation alone will give most companies headache.
Now government punish ZTE, the company wants to buy things not make things
like Huawei because they feel the company buying chips from US have no
opportunity to fight back. I am thankful I have left my previous company. I
can tell you the trade war using chip sanction is going to end very badly
for US in the long run. I am angry now because I voted for Trump. This guy
really knows nothing. |
