HPD: 2 killed after multi-vehicle accident; driver distracted by dog
Deadly crash closes 610 South Loop east at Mykawa

HOUSTON -
A fatal accident closed all eastbound lanes of the 610 South Loop at Mykawa
Road Sunday night.
According to Houston police, a man in a Dodge Durango was traveling
eastbound on the main lanes of 610 South Loop around 9:30 p.m. when his pit
bull distracted him, lost control and hit the guardrail.
Officers said his car broke down in the far right lane when his dog jumped
out. Several other drivers who witnessed the accident stopped to help the
man catch the dog.
A man driving a Charger, a couple driving a Mustang and two men in a small
Toyota also stopped, according to HPD.
Police said as the passenger from the Toyota was going back to the car, a
white pickup swerved into the shoulder and struck that man, killing him
instantly. That truck then swerved again and struck the driver of the
Durango. As the man tumbled forward another truck, black, also struck him
and then struck the Mustang.
The driver of the Durango was killed, ending up pinned beneath the black
pickup, according to police.
The man driving the white pickup fled the scene on foot and is still on the
loose. |
