| u*****a 发帖数: 9489 | 4 Well, there is this one thing that a lot of people do not understand.
Have you ever wondered why some people have to say "I am proud of being xxx"
, for example black, Asian, gay, Catholic, Muslim or female? There is
actually a reason.
The reason is, IN HISTORY they were told NOT to be proud of those things.
They were told NOT to be proud of who they were. By saying "I'm proud of
being Asian", I am telling the world that I disagree with how my ancestors
were treated before because of their race and that I do not want this ever
happen again.
Therefore, do those who are white, male, straight and Protestant have to (or
need to) say they are "proud"? No, not at all. They have ALWAYS been proud,
everyone knows they are proud, and no one has ever told them not to be
proud. So what is the point of saying their "proud" out loud?
Anyway, I don't really find this "joke" funny. If one thinks it is, he does
not understand this society.
