Two men were killed Monday night in a shooting at Naval Station Norfolk, a
spokeswoman said.
The fatal shooting occurred at about 11:20 p.m. at Pier 1 on board the USS
Mahan, said Terri Davis, spokeswoman for Naval Station Norfolk. The suspect
was killed by U.S. Navy security forces, Davis said.
The victims, who have not been identified, were a sailor and a civilian,
Davis said. There were no other injuries reported in the shooting.
The suspect approached the Mahan's upper deck and was confronted by the ship
's security, Davis said. A struggle ensued and the suspect was able to
disarm the watch officer.

The suspect used the gun to fatally shoot the sailor, he said. Afterwards,
Naval security killed the suspect. The suspect did not have his own weapon,
Davis said.
As a precautionary measure, Naval Station Norfolk was placed on lockdown for
45 minutes following the shooting, but as of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday all areas
except for Pier 1 have returned to normal operations.
The shooting and details surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Officers, chiefs and duty section personnel on the USS Mahan are being asked
to report to work Tuesday, Davis said. Non-duty section enlisted personnel
on the USS Mahan should not report, she said.
Counselors from Navy Fleet and Family Service Center will be on hand to
assist personnel.
Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the shooting. | d****o
