Rich people don't manage money themselves, they give the money to hedge
funds. Those people like the stock market much better because it allows them
to use many tools to leverage the return and to hedge the risks. Same
reason why Chinese stock market is not doing well. They don't have enough
derivative market. So, in comparison, the real estate becomes more
attractive. If the financial market in china is as developed as it is in US,
people will put money in stock market even if the stocks promise much lower
return than houses because of the liquidity and the leverage power of the
options.
