When are the people of this country going to be able to make their own
decisions. Life is pathetic here, mainly for the reason that we have "Baba
Bear" telling us what we can do and what we can say. Foreign countries focus
on the development and the administration of their nation. We focus on
money and doing things "the way we want" like children. China doesn't
understand responsibility, so we're nothing but a bunch of pets to these
leaders. I agree corruption should stop, but when will it be acceptable to
make politics a social forum. No matter what happens in the west, I totally
respect the fact that they have the ability to focus on the things that
really matter in their lives and try their best to have a better future
rather than leave it in "other's hands."
China, you are my homeland, and I love you and your people. But when are we
going to be a responsible nation? These days, more than ever, it seems
impossible.

From the outside, one of the greatest strengths of China is that they are
able to work hard, delay gratification for the greater good of the nation
aka collectivism. This generation will make sacrifices, but future
generation taste the fruits of the labour. Sadly, many in the developed
nations like where I came from, people are poisoned by the Western concept
of individualism, consumerism, democracy (without understanding its true
implications) and short-term gratification.
BTW it is generally good for your government to advise you not to spend too
much on veblen bullshit, it does shit to the economy and society. I
recommend reading up "Age of Propaganda: The Everyday Use and Abuse of
Persuasion", you should be able to understand the power advertisers held
over the less-than-discerning public.

This is a good thing. Your government is actually doing a lot of things
right. That is weird to a lot of people because governments are complete
screw-ups in most parts of the world.
Luxury goods are a waste of wealth. Spain lost it's gold for trinkets. Your
government is stopping your people from wasting their money on trinkets.
