more cars, they need build more highways. Once Chinese have more cars, they
will travel less on railroads.

buyers. Even just a small percentage of Chinese drive, it is already more
than what the country can support, so rail roads and high ways are much less
mutually exclusive in China. This is dramatically different for US in the
early 20th century, where the development of high ways killed the rail road
immediately given the vast land and small population density.
