feeding tube, breathing tube, etc.

发帖数: 477 | 3 Unfortunately there is no cure for ALS. If managed well and reduce
complicationg, patient can live much longer. We have a lot of ALS patients
here either for diaphram pacing or BiPAP. Be careful with supplemental
oxygen. These kind of patients have been hypoxia for long time. Supplemental
oxygen may inhibit respiratory drive and cause respriatory arrest. | d**o
发帖数: 618 | 4 Unfortunately no cure and no magic meds. However, riluzole is an FDA-
approved drug for ALS, maybe expensive, and can extend life 3-6 months on
average. If this pt's family can afford it, maybe worth to give it a try.
Otherwise, make sure pt has good life quality and minimal pain, and watch
out for aspiration and respiration failure ... | s*****r
