I****a 发帖数: 407 | 1 This past Saturday with help from my volleyball teammates, we successfully
resuscitate a person with most likely a cardiac arrest on the court.
A mid age man who all of sudden collapsed on the court after playing for 2
hrs w/o any prodrome. I rushed by his side noticing him unresponsive, there
was no limb movement, his eyes were closed, there was no pulse at carotid. I
immediately gave him a chest thump and started CPR. In the mean while, my
teammates started secure his airway and started calling for help. After
probably 1-2 mins, I noticed slight movements of lips but there was no
apparent sign of spontaneous breathing and there was no pulse. Another min
went by, his facial color started to change and I was too frustrated and sad
to loose a teammate who played with us for past year. I kept asking AED
while doing compression, we play in a middle school and I know there has to
be one around. I got tired out after probably 3 mins into resuscitation and
had to ask my teammates to switch. Finally someone brought AED. I attached
the pads and it advised me to shock. After the shock, I restarted chest
compression for another 15 secs then I could feel his carotid pulse and soon
he opened his eyes. I was extremely happy so were all teammates and other
helpers. Finally ambulance came by, which is definitely faster than I
thought. They asked me some questions and wrote down my names etc. Tech did
an EKG and asked my opinion. I was embarrassed for a second as I have not
read an EKG for a very very long time. I pointed V3/V4 slight ST depression
which is likely due to early repolarization. Soon after, he was transported
to hospital.
It is definitely unforgettable experience for me especially doing CPR on
somebody I know. AED is so useful and absolutely saved this guy's life. |

I always think AEDs should be avalable in those public sports facilities. I
know an internist died while he was playing tennis. He just had a cardiac

need one? |
I****a 发帖数: 407 | 13 I am not sure about the data. My guess is that it probably is more than 5%
but less than 25%. I guess it also depends on what the initial rhythm is and
other variables such as age, comorbidities, time to effective CPR and
availability of AED, etc.
