I always admire people who donate bone marrow to strangers in need. till
this morning when I participated in Bone Marrow harvest from a volunteer
donor, I am deeply inspired by these amazing people. This donor is a 22
years old girl,college student, donating bone marrow for a complete stranger
, a patient, at Europe.
She donated BM in traditional way. Under general anesthesia,the 11 gauge
jamshidi bone marrow needle went into her posterior iliac crests about 100
times. we withdraw 5-10 ml each time, harvested a total 800ml.
50-70% Caucasian can find a matched unrelated donor.In Germany, almost
everyone is a registered bone marrow donor.
Chinese are among the ethic groups hard to find a matched bone marrow donor
due to HLA type diversity and less registered volunteer donors.
Let us register and help Chinese.
