1.CV/resume – clear and concise. Fill all the blanks in standard
application. Don’t leave any gap > 3 months. (Fill in the reasons.) Only
common, necessary hobby.
2.Cloths: formal and fashion. Gray, coffee, dark blue, black
Male: light colored undershirt needed
Clean, no label, smell or food residue.
No white sock/Toy watch/fake jewelry.
Search the info about the IV and the Place. (search for department/staff
info)
3.Travel with semi-formal clothes. No jean or sweater in case the luggage
lost.
During IV
1.When starts: the moment you are in the premise of the school or hospital
2.Polite to everyone: never know who the boss is. Anyone can destroy you.
3.Positive attitude: Don’t complain weather, road, and flight delay.
4.Facing interviewer: eye contact – practice with friends. Eye stays on
interviewer’s face.
5.Prepare some questions -
6.Pre-scripted common Qs – say the answers naturally. Don’t just simply
recite your answers.
7.Behaviors –
Shake hands: real hand shaking.
Sit: if you stay in the waiting room, when interviewer comes in, you should
stand up and wait for interviews to tell you where to sit. Some interviewers
care about where you sit. So be careful.
Walk: walk with coordinator/people side by side. Not in front or behind.
Talk: accent is ok. No 口头禅。
After IV
1.Send an email or card. – may just send to the important interviewers. PD
and PC are must. IV Itinerary has interviewers’ contact information.
2.Not necessary to contact more. – not very useful to make phone call or
send emails. Files have already been in the system. It is a group decision.
3.References – can be any person, inform the reference which specialty or
programs you apply for, keep a good relationship with former boss. |

From program point of view, it is just a routine. This year, all in or all
out, for the program that offers prematch, it will be more aggressive.
Q: For pathology, how important is test scores?
Getting IV – scores and background are the most important.
Getting into program – IV performance is the most important.
Q: How many programs should I apply for?
The more, the better. Apply for whatever programs you think you can
get in. |

disability.

Answer: no need to mention it specifically. No need to put it in PS. You can
mention it in your CV with reasons.
Tips: clinical experience: depends on how you say it.
Q: All in and all out, when can you know it?
A: Nobody knows. You can ask program during IV.

A: No need. Interviewers don’t have time to read it during IV.
Q: When will LoRs be viewed?
A: LoRs are viewed during screening process. LoRs are used to find bad
candidates.
Q: Graduate cutoff date – is it real?
A: Not really. Not very strict.
Tips: Filters: anything can be a filter.
Q: How to contact the program you got IV last year?
A: Call the program but not very often. You may get answer why you’re not

A: If the author of LoR is known to the program, then it is strong.
Otherwise any LoR is the same.
Q: MD or PhD’s LoR?
A: MD’s LoR is more strong than PhD’s. Since MD might be known to the
program. But over 99% PhDs aren’t known by the program.
Q: Future of pathology -
A: # of positions are fixed. Geographic preference - Not many pathologists
like to go to Rural area. There are geographic limitations. |
