First, miniatures as below:
1. J1 vsia is much easier to apply compared to H1B. However, some small
community hospitals may support H1B because of relatively higher demand for
“labor”-oriented resident.
2. RLs are more important from a MD than that from a basic research PhD
mentor, but a good RL from the latter doesn’t hurt anything.
3. Observership. The most important and the ultimate and minimal goal for OB
is a strong RL. To achieve this goal, social network/attitude/communication
is more important than “learn a lot”. However, it is also important to
record the interesting/unique cases which u can sell those as good stories/
highlight when u have IV.
4. Short time after medical school graduation is a big advantage over long
time post-graduation with research background, especially true for clinical
skill oriented programs and community hospitals. Univ. of Louisville and
Univ. of Cincinnati don’t accept more than 5y post-graduation IMG for
pathology.
5. Postdoctoral or technician when u prepare for exam? No matter which one
you choose, it is important that you have ENOUGH time to work on yr own “
job”. If u set yr mind to pursue the MD career, to get a decent exam scores
is the first and very important step.
6. Personality!!! Connection!!!
7. Deadline for current match program September 1st, upload everything,
except ECFMG certificate and MSPE, which can be sent to the applied programs
a little late.
8. How to find the favored program? Go through the ERASProgram. Tons
of info there (rate of IMG, picture of the matched residents, etc), give
yourself at least two months to prepare. This includes digging all the info
about this particular program via ERAS and mitbbs search in MedicalCareer.
9. If you plan to apply more than two specialties (such as IM & path), it is
really important to get prepared well for each one when on IV and it is
better not to mention that you are also interested in other specialties,
because you want to show yr commitment to this particular program.
Second, 对于luludd师兄今晚talk的一些感言
1. 有问必答，知无不言，不厌其烦 （包括很多重复性问题）
2. 思路清晰，有理有据有情
3. 绝不居功自傲 （很多credit给了亲爱的老婆 :-）
由他的谈话，可以看出多年的research training以及preparation of residency 不仅
锻炼出严谨的逻辑思维，而且更培养了如何待人接物的优秀人品。学习！学习！再学习！
Third, 再次感谢各位organizer的辛苦工作！！感谢主持人及时打断我的buzzing
questions, 不然我可真对不起luludd的嗓子了;-)
