又到火柴日，今年的名单和去年类似，加上潜水的，不知道每年match上的能不能过百
。考版这个事，我周围的MD没有不知道的，在准备的人数也很可观。不过每年就这么几
个人还是太少了。
我只能文科生判断－－－无统计，样本来自于周围的人。如果你double９９，match基
本上没问题，即使一年不行，某个科不行，最后总能成功。如果step１，２都无高分，
甚至是８０＋，match的机会就很小了。这种时候多半会靠关系，运气，其它背景等等
，总之无法用来做广泛的参考。
刀前辈可能会来挖苦我了。而且每年的名单上也的确有很多８０＋的。不过在所有的８
０＋里面，他们的比率能有多高呢？如果他们的老板是PD，会在贴子里写出来么？
十年前，及格就是胜利；五年前，９０便有希望；现在，非双９９无以言把握；将来..
....如果你花了两年时间，得到一个step one ９０分，你愿意再花两年时间去考以后
的考试准备match么？
知己，知彼，知机，知止。考版的付出大家都清楚，除非是老单，付出都是 以家庭计
的。或者大家都淡定，付出是为了经历。

有没有可能到美国做医生。老师斩钉截铁的说不可能，考不出来，她认识的中国人没有
一个考出来的。我们医学院在美国的校友算是比较多的，可以想象当时消息多闭塞，复
习考试有多困难。十几年前国内的收入还很低，即使出国以后，这几百几百美金的考试
费，都是巨款。也没有人告诉他们怎么复习考试，怎么面试，怎么做住院，怎么找工作
，没有信息沟通，没有人际关系，都是摸索着走过来。我从来都觉得现在有现在的困难
，但是相比于十几年前的前辈，机会多得多了。有他们那种拼劲的话，会成功的。如果
只是关注于99能不能match上，我想这样的人放在当年根本就不会开始考试。

。我只是想说，不要把前人考到及格想的那么简单。那时候敢考的人，今天一定都是99
，那时候能考到及格的人，今天一定能match上。老是去羡慕以前考试成绩不高，哀叹
生不逢时，会陷入误区的。
还有，我觉得老刀一直非常鼓励失败的人来分享经验。他对低分，fail，有各种困难的
人特别支持。今年看到了好多人是去年没有match上，重新申请的，跟他的长期支持分
不开吧。

我听到很多失败的例子，都是朋友转述，在医版上看到的就很少。其实能完成所有考试
递交申请的人，都是成功者。更多的人还在年复一年的准备。付出与代价，所有身在其
中的人都很清楚。
在美国行医，就是很多人追求的成功，回报大家都有数。成功是激励，也可以是诱惑。
诱惑铺天盖地，对身在其中的人或者还没有迈出第一步的人都不是好事情。
衡量困难不容易。第一波吃螃蟹的人，难在螃蟹是否能吃，如何吃；现在大家都知道螃
蟹好吃，但螃蟹少了，如何抓螃蟹倒是问题了。孰易孰难啊。

Really not much to argue about. Here is a rough picture about Non-U.S.
Citizen IMGs based on the data in the past several years.
Registered for USMLE Step 1 each year: ~16,000
ECFMG Certificates issued: ~8,000
So about 50% of IMGs failed (change mind, give up because of low score or
failure in Step 1, Step2 CK, or Step 2 CS). If you receive an ECFMG
Certificate, you're already in the top 50%.
IMGs matched to a residency position: ~4,200 (including all possibilities,
such as prematch, early match and the main match)
If an IMG is ECFMG certified, he or she has 50-60% chance to match (not bad
if people try hard. At least try 2-3 years before thinking about plan B.
Anyway, it's a personal decision.) If an IMG just started on Step 1, the
chance is ~30%.
I think CMGs have a better chance, because the majority of them have a Ph.D.
degree or extensive research/working experience.
Every year, about 350-370 CMGs get their ECFMG certificates.

You are better than me. I didn't even know what USMLE was when I was in
school. The first time I knew about it was from a Taiwanese doctor when I
was doing my third year PhD here in US. If I would know USMLE earlier, I
would have tried USMLE earlier.
My aunt who was a professor in Zhongshan hospital told me to do postdoc
after graduation from medical school and then try to take the boards and
match when I was in my last year in medical school. But I didn't take it
seriously. I did two years of master in Shanghai, and took GRE, came here as
a PhD student, did 5 years of PhD, and then matched. See how many years I
have wasted.

比率也许还低于３０％吧。
医版对很多人来说，是交流经验，鼓舞斗志的地方；但对可能更多人而言，是make
decission的地方。一个决定，２年＋的时间，很多其它方面的牺牲，难以量化的精力
付出。给大家一个事件的全貌也是一种帮忙。

I encourage ppl to pursue this track using my own and many other successful

it to use your vivid bad experience to scare ppl and pursue them to
withdraw, in this way we CMGs can make some contribution to other national
FMGs--give them more opportunity in avoiding to compete w/ CMGs.
So far, I got countless CMG's appreciate mails for their success in USMLE
track, but no ANY one who curse me that I cheated them to step in a trap.
I'm sure many FMGs from other countries will definitely appreciate you,

Talking about the incomes only, you will never make millions in 10 yrs as a
doctor. It is a personal choice. My husband made enough to retire in his
30s. He was thinking of going to the med school. He still a bit regrets he
didnt. Any careers that offer u a license guarantee u a decent life. I
would take comfort in pursuing medicine. But um, for some people, it is
boring.

举个例子,开车会有accident,可能会因为这个就永远不开车吗?即使成功的机率只有30%
,可是每个人都希望成为这个30%的一员.努力了,你就有可能,不努力,只有0%.
所以,我觉得,这种统计其实没有意义.

教学费（pharmacy， dentist）， 有人帮着带孩子， 路当然多了。
我只能说多大部分的CMG 来说（ 都不具备你这条件）， 考版是一个最值得去做的事情
， 哪怕是30-50的成功率。（ 我私人的观察比这个高很多）
版上的人大部分读过phd， 还有再其他相关专业读书工作很多年的，走的路比你过得桥
都多， 大家知道什么是最好的路。
