In beta thalassemia major, absence of beta-globin chain causes
1,intra-medullary destruction which causes ineffective erythropoiesis.
2, hemolysis/ reticulocytes increase
3, marrow expansion.
我的问题是
1.If the erythropoiesis is ineffective, why we can see increased
reticulocytes ?
2, If the erythropoiesis is ineffective, why we can see marrow expansion which is caused by erythroid hyperplasia ?

is due to accelerated apoptosis of erythroid precursors, and hemolysis is
because of the accelerated peripheral destruction of erythrocytes. The bone
marrow significantly increases the erythroid precursors due to anemia, cause
bone marrow expansion, but frequent transfusion is still needed for
thalassemia major due to above reasons.
The normal red cell life span is 120 days and that the duration of a
reticulocyte in the peripheral blood is 1 day. The reticulocyte percentage
in the peripheral blood is an indication of the rapidity of red cell
turnover if the patient is in a steady state. However, the number of
reticulocytes released into the blood reflects the amount of erythropoiesis
on a given day. | A**A 发帖数: 224 | 3 Ineffective erythropoiesis
1. The reticulocyte count is elevated, but it is lower than expected for the
severity of anemia.
2. Severe anemia is uncompensated. It leads to massive erythroid hyperplasia
