Urge Your Representative to Oppose $2.4 Billion in Proposed Cuts for NIH and
NSF
SfN urges members to contact their representatives today to support National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) funding.
The House of Representatives is set to debate and vote this week on
legislation to reduce FY2011 funding for science, including a $1.6 billion
cut for NIH and a $826 million cut for NSF. Such cuts, proposed by the House
Republican leadership, would reduce the NIH and NSF budgets to FY2008
levels.
Contact your representatives now through the SfN Legislative Action Center
and ask them to oppose cuts that will delay treatments, eliminate jobs, and
jeopardize America’s standing as a global leader in scientific discovery.
House votes are expected Thursday – contact your member of Congress today!
Please urge five colleagues to add their voices in opposition to cuts that
will hurt science and hurt America. |

a 50% reduction on graduate medical education funding. Currently medical
residency programs receive approximately $9.5 billion annually.
Fortunately this proposal wasn't included in the actual budget released
recently. |

这样的话， 美国医学院为啥还要扩大招生呢？医学院得到政府的资助吗？

发帖数: 1334 | 4 Yes the cuts in GME (graduate medical education) funding will directly
affect the number of residency positions. Most residency programs (
university and community) receive government GME funding.
The medical school enrollment increase is AAMC's response to the projected
physician shortage in American. That's why AAMC strongly against the deficit
reduction committee's proposal. The GME funding is safe for now so don't
worry about it. Some people feel that the pressure for cuts still exists in
the future.
