是。属于CP(Clinical Pathology).

是。可申请CP only或AP/CP住院医生。但clinical chemistry 和microbiology很多由
PhD负责，不需考Board.

There are two different ways to obtain credential in clinical lab, not
anatomic lab/pathology.
1. With MD degree or its equivalent, one may enter clinical pathology or
Anatomic/Clinical pathology combined residency program. Upon graduation, one
then be eligible for American board of pathology, and is entitled to obtain
Medical license and practice lab med/clin path.
2, With PhD degree or other terminal degree in biologic sciences, one may
enter a fellowship of clinical lab science, and obtains certificate in lab
directorship or clinical lab sub-specialty, like microbiol, cytogenetics,
clin chem or hematology. Different states may have different criteria,
though similar. ASCP ( www.ascp.org ) is a main body dealing with credential
process.

CP 的住院医生才需考CP的board。
fellowship的定义很广，可指resident后的专科培训(accredited and certified),临
床专科培训（certified but not accredited),或科研博士后培训。在这里指director
-track的博士后培训。我知道有（至少一个）中国人在美国拿化学PhD后，在公司工作
数年，再参加这种fellowship，最后在某大医院做临床化学的负责人。希望他（们）能
和大家分享经验。

CP包括血液病理（含凝血），血库，分子生物，临床（生物）化学和微生物等。血液病
理和血库必须由MD担任attending。一般血库有一个MD的director。而临床化学和微生
物多由PhD担任director。

Program Description:
Emory University occupies 550 acres in a quiet, residential area about 15
minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta. The Department of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine of Emory University is one of the largest training
centers for pathologists in the United States. The postdoctoral program in
clinical chemistry at Emory University was founded in 2005, with the support
of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The goal of the
program is to educate and train Ph.D. and/or M.D. scientists for careers in
clinical chemistry. Through unique partnerships in the Atlanta area, this
program is designed to prepare trainees for academic, clinical service, and
industry positions.
The duration of the program is a minimum of two years. The program is
structured such that, during the first few months, the fellow is prepared
for clinical service through didactic teachings and rotations through areas
of the clinical laboratory. The fellows then become active in clinical
service by assisting with clinical projects and on-call responsibilities for
the laboratory. Fellows are involved in research projects during this time
and may elect to continue projects beyond the required two years, provided
funding is available. Additionally, fellows participate in and attend weekly
seminars in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Fellow
will also be required to attend the resident training course that runs on a
two-year cycle.

PhD with qualified fellowship is eligible for it in my understanding.
You may need to visit www.ascp.org and specialty organizations such as clin
chem, blood banking, etc. I am sorry that I do not that much detail.
For supervisor/director position, one needs either CP board certification
through Am Board of Path (basically through CP or AP/CP residency ), or such
a fellowship. However, you may just work in clinical lab as specialist.
Most places require green card for those posts. |
